How it all started
Eclectik Batik was founded in 2023 from a simple but unexpected interaction between founder Mika Imanudin and a stranger on an elevator. Mika was wearing batik pants as pajamas when the stranger, who had never seen batik before, asked where he got them and where he could buy a pair. Mika’s answer was simple: you can’t really get these here.
That moment stayed with him. It revealed not only how unfamiliar batik still was to many people outside of Indonesia, but also how much beauty, meaning, and craftsmanship had yet to be seen by a wider audience. From that point on, the vision for Eclectik Batik began to take shape.
What started as a brief exchange became something bigger: a desire to share Indonesian culture with the world, while also creating more exposure for the artisans and traditional techniques behind each piece. Eclectik Batik exists to honor that craft, celebrate that heritage, and bring these stories into everyday wear.
This would not be possible without the local artisans in Indonesia who share that same vision. Their skill, patience, and dedication are at the heart of every piece. With their help, Eclectik Batik is able to not only carry the beauty of batik forward, but also show the world how deep-rooted this culture truly is.
And this is only the beginning. We are not stopping at batik as it is. Custom pieces are already being developed and imagined to elevate batik even further, fusing traditional Indonesian pattern with modern streetwear. The goal is to honor the culture while pushing it into new spaces, new silhouettes, and new conversations.
